About us

The Cambridge Muslim Homeschool Network was set up by a group of families who wanted to bring together the best of our community for the benefit of our children. Starting from a few sessions of science and nature walks, the group has blossomed into a growing network with a bustling schedule, bringing together like-minded families, all working to raise upright children and build a flourishing community.

We are promoters of education and tarbiya (spiritual upbringing) – and our calendar reflects this. We have an elected committee comprising three co-ordinators, a secretary and a treasurer. You can read more about our network in our constitution here. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Our News & Announcements

Community survey

In anticipation of the formal launch of CMH network, a survey of local homeschooling families told us a lot about what families are looking for. We are, ultimately, a network run by homeschoolers, for homeschoolers!

Parliament Trip

We had a fantastic group trip to the Houses of Parliament in December 2022. Over 40 people filled a coach from Cambridge Central Mosque driving down to central London, and we had a fantastic tour and learning-filled day with the Education team. We’d like to thank all those who helped make this trip happen, as well as the UK Parliament for hosting us!

Committee elected

The inaugural meeting of the CMH network was held on 4th December 2022. As well as formalising the constitution, a committee was formed following a nomination and election process. Your committee is here to serve you and we welcome others who would like to contribute to the network to stand at the next Annual General Meeting (AGM). We would like to thank CQC for so graciously hosting our meeting, as they have done so many times in the past for so many of the community’s gatherings.

Tree Planting at Milton Country Park

In February we volunteered at Milton Country Park to plant new wildlife hedgerows. We had a great turn-out and managed to plant 30 trees, including field maple, rose, privet and elder saplings.

We submitted our tree-planting efforts to the Cambridge Central Mosque #barakatrees campaign, which aims to plant a MILLION trees! Check out more at: https://www.giveusalift.org/eco-challenge/

Mid-Sha'baan Recital

On this special night, our nasheed class gave a lovely performance at the Cambridge Central Mosque, inspiring us all with their voices to draw closer to Allah.

Eid Party 2024

We had a very memorable Eid al Adha 2024 community party at the picturesque Hinxton Village Hall. We had over 70 people attend and had competitions and prizes for children, brothers and sisters. We also had a fun quiz, nasheeds and fantastic food from around the world representing our diverse and colourful community.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the CMH Network?

Cambridge Muslim Homeschool Network is a platform for homeschooling families to collaborate and stay in touch about educational and social activities. It primarily caters for the needs of home educating Muslim families living in and around Cambridge and who pay the annual charge.

Who is the CMH Network for?

The CMH Network caters for the whole spectrum of the Cambridge Muslim homeschooling community. It is a platform for everyone. We hae subgroups for those considering homeschooling and also groups specifically for homeschoolers who are full members. We currently have a mix of sessions running for children of different ages, including for both girls and boys. We also run regular social functions for the whole family as well as adult-only sessions.

Is CMH a co-op?

No. All the families that are part of CMH independently manage the education of their children. CMH is a network that instead acts as a means of communication and collaboration, without trying to cater for some or all of the specific educational aims of any one family or group.

Why aren't there any activities for x y or z?

The activities organised under the umbrella of CMH are dependent on demand and on the availability of parents and volunteers who are available to organise them. If there is another age group or type of activity you’d like to see catered for then help us make it happen!

How do I become a member?

To become a member of CMH Network you can fill out a sign-up form here. General membership which signs you up to our mailing list is free of charge. Full membership carries a charge of £10 per family for one year.

What are the benefits of becoming a full member?

Full members (meaning those members who satisfy all three of the criteria within the constitution) will have access to the private messaging platforms. They may also have discounted rates on any activities or trips that carry a charge.

Does CMH have any rules or policies?

The CMH Network is an association and has a Constitution which can be found here. This covers the most important aspects of the Network and the way it operates. In addition, we have a number of policies: safeguarding, health and safety, data protection, behaviour and complaints. These can be found below.
